Does TRICARE cover CPAP supplies?

Yes, but it's a limited benefit. What's covered, and what isn't.

Does TRICARE cover CPAP supplies?

Yes, but TRICARE calls it "a limited benefit." You need a prescription from a TRICARE-authorized doctor. TRICARE doesn't cover batteries or machine cleaners like SoClean. How often each supply can be replaced depends on your plan, and intake confirms that with you.

Masks, cushions, tubing and filters wear out with nightly use. Here is what TRICARE says about CPAP machines and supplies.

Steps

  1. Keep the prescription current. CPAP coverage needs a prescription from a TRICARE-authorized doctor.
  2. Know what it's for. TRICARE may cover CPAP for obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and for respiratory insufficiency.
  3. Replace parts on schedule. Masks, cushions, tubing and filters wear out. Intake checks how often your plan allows each one.
  4. Skip the cleaning machines. TRICARE doesn't cover CPAP cleaners like SoClean, and says they could harm the machine. Clean by hand instead.
  5. Replacing the machine. You'll need papers showing why you can no longer use it, proof it costs less to replace than to repair, and a new prescription.
  6. Active duty. Service members may be able to get a portable CPAP and batteries with a referral and authorization, if they meet certain criteria.
  7. TRICARE For Life. If you have TRICARE For Life and live in the U.S. or a U.S. territory, Medicare's rules apply too.
