A military move (PCS) with medical equipment
Keep equipment and care going before, during and after the move.
A PCS move has a hundred moving parts. Medical equipment should not be one of the surprises. Start early.
Steps
- List everything. Write down every piece of equipment and supply in use, and which ones move with you versus need replacing at the new home.
- Get copies of paperwork. Ask the current provider for copies of prescriptions and anything the equipment depends on.
- Check your TRICARE region. Your TRICARE region may change with the move. Confirm at tricare.mil.
- Tell your current supplier. Give your current equipment supplier the move date so rentals and service wrap up cleanly.
- Call ahead to the new area. GDG serves the western U.S. Send a relocation request with your move month so intake can plan ahead. Moving east? Our sister company Global Outreach serves the East Coast.
- Moving week: keep it close. Anything used every day, like breathing equipment or a walker, rides with you, not in the truck. Pack chargers and batteries in a labeled bag.
- At the new home. Set up care with a new provider as soon as you can. They may need to write new prescriptions.
